Comb
with Human Image. This narrow comb originally had long teeth, and it was
probably worn as a hair ornament. The long beard on the face resembles
that on the carved tusk in this case. The eyes and eyebrows would have
been inlaid in another material, such as black paste.
Hippopotamus
Tusk with Carved Head. This figure's face includes a long beard and
carved ears. The tip of the tusk resembles a tall cap and the lower part
suggests a cloaked body, but no details are indicated. A hole in the
top indicates that the figure was suspended, but its use and meaning are
not known.
Male
statuette in Ivory from Predynastic period, Naqada I. The flat extremely
long figure wears only a penis sheath. His arms, now mostly lost,
originally extended down the figure's body. Inlays of another material
once filled the vacant eyeholes.
